There are times even when the printer is connected, a message is shown on the computer screen that the printer is offline and the printing of the document is either does not take place or stops in the middle of printing. There are few methods with which this issue can be resolved.
Troubleshooting Steps HP Printer Error Offline
Method 1: HP print and Scan Doctor
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor. A specific version of the HP print and Scan doctor is available for users of Windows 8 and 10, a user with these two specific windows should download that to troubleshoot the offline HP Printer Error message problem.
After downloading the HP Print and Scan Doctor run HPPSdr program. This will open the HP Print and Scan Doctor, select and click on the Start tab and then choose the printer. In case the printer is not being shown on the list, then switching the printer off and then after few seconds turn it on then click on Retry. In case of connection issue, the HP Print and Scan Doctor will give the commands on how to bring the connectivity back, follow those commands. After completing the commands, click on Fix Printing and then check if the error message is still being displayed. If the issue continues, try the next method.
Method 2: Resetting the Printer
By resetting the printer the chances are that it might come back online, to do that first turn off the printer and for a minimum of 10 seconds wait, before disconnecting the power cord of the printer. Next turn the computer off too or any device that the user is using to print from.
If the user is using a wireless printer turn off the router too and take the power cord off the router. With this too minimum wait of 10 seconds is required. Put the power cord back on the router and switch it on and check whether the connectivity of the router is back.
Next put the power cord back on the printer and on the wireless control panel switch off the wireless connection and wait for few seconds to put it on. Check if the printer is connected to the wireless. In case it is connected to the computer, turn the computer on and give the print command to see if it is printing and the printer is online. If the problem persists, follow the next method.
Method 3: Default Printer Setting
At times there is a possibility that the driver the printer is using is changed from the one that was installed. Change the existing print driver into the one that was initially installed and make that into the default driver. Check that the printer does not have offline setting.
To change the default printer settings, find ‘Devices and Printers’ icon and click on it. Check that the HP printer is not in grey out as the icon, if it is, then it is not active. Right click on the printer and choose ‘Set as Default printer’. Next try to print, if it does the error is solved, if not the user can update the firmware of the printer, try software reinstallation of the printer and even if these does not solve the issue call our HP Service Centre.
