Printhead Missing Error Code HP Printer
Failure in the ink system can result in the computer or the control panel of the printer showing the message ‘Missing or Failed Print head. After the HP Printer Error message is displayed the printer stops printing the document.
However, there are few methods with which the problem can be resolved. But before taking any action the user must check that the cartridges that are being used are genuine HP cartridges.
Troubleshooting Steps HP Printer Error Printhead Missing
Method 1: Printer Resetting
A user can reset the printer, troubleshoot the problem, resetting it would re-establish a new connection thereby clearing any messages with errors of the print head. Following these steps can reset the printer.
- If the printer is off, turn it on.
- Before initiating the next step let the printer start but should be silent and idle.
- While the printer is on, the power cord of the printer needs to be disconnected from the machine’s rear. Then from the power socket unplug the cord.
- Before putting the cord back into the power socket the user has to wait for a minimum of one minute.
- Next put the power cord back on the rear of the printer.
- If the printer is not turned on automatically after putting the cord back into the printer, the user must manually turn the printer on.
- Before initiating a next printing task to check whether the printer is still displaying the error message, the user needs to wait for the printer to be silent and idle.
- In case the above steps do not rectify the error follow the next method.
Method 2: Unseating the Print head
- To reseat the printhead open the cartridge access door.
- Unplug the cord off the power socket and then off the printer.
- Cartridge latch needs to be lifted and then lift the printhead marginally so that it is not totally off the cartridge. Place the printhead back on the cartridge. See if the issue has been resolved. If not follow the next method.
Method 3: Reseating the Printhead
- Reseat the printhead into the carriage.
- To check that the printhead is seating properly into the carriage very softly and gradually move the printhead left and right.
- Next the carriage latch needs to be lowered and ensure that it is positioned down.
- The cartridge door needs to be closed, after which reattach the power cord on the rear of the printer and the power socket.
- The printer needs to be turned on manually if it is not on automatically.
- Let the printer warm up and become silent and idle to check whether the problem has been rectified, if not follow the next method.
Method 4: Removal and cleaning of the cartridges
To ensure that the cartridges are not the causes of the problem remove them and clean them. After that, check if the error message is still being displayed. If it continues the user can follow the next method to rectify the issue.
Method 5: Repeat three times the reseating of the Printhead
At times the problem can keep occurring and to rectify it is to repeat the reseating of the printhead three times. If the error persists, go to the next method.
Method 6: Printer firmware update
Download the latest firmware of the printer from official HP website.
If the problem still continues the user can replace the printhead or contact the HP customer service centre.
