How to Fix Quickbooks Error -6147, 0 Quickly

First Steps

To resolve the issue, users must first update QuickBooks to the latest release and then install and run the QuickBooks File Doctor. If the error occurs again, users must perform the steps mentioned below in the given order.

Error 6147, 0 can occur on local as well as network setup. So, users must choose the correct setup before proceeding with the steps.

The File is Being Opened Locally

1: Rename the .TLG and .ND files—First, open the folder containing the company file and search files with the same name as the company files, but with .ND and .TLG extensions. For example: company_file.qbw.nd and company_file.qbw.tlg

Now, right-click on every file and choose ‘Rename’. Add ‘OLD’ at the end of every file name. For example: company_file.qbw.nd.OLD

Once done, users must reopen QuickBooks and try signing in to the company file. If the error recurs, users must go to the next solution on the list.

2: Open a sample company file—Users must select ‘Open a Sample File’ in the ‘No Company Open’ window and select any file from the list of sample files. If the file opens, users must go to the next solution. But if the error recurs, the QuickBooks installation is damaged and must be repaired.

3: Copy the file to the desktop—First, users must open the folder containing the company file and locate the file with the .QBW extension. Now, right-click on the file and choose ‘Copy’. Then, right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose ‘Paste’.

Now, users must open QuickBooks while pressing down Ctrl key, which will open the ‘No Company Open’ window. Select ‘Open or restore an existing company’, go to the desktop, find the company file that was copied and open it. If the error persists, go to the next solution.

4: Restore a backup of company file—As the company file couldn’t be opened even after moving it to  another location, users must restore a backup of the file to find out if the problem is with the company file (.QBW). If the error occurs again, go to the next solution.

5: Restore backup using Auto Data Recovery—In case the company file is damaged, users must recover lost data using QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery.

The File is Being Opened Over the Network

If the file is being opened over the network, it is saved on the server or another computer.

1: Check if Hosting is on at every workstation—There should be one PC or server to host the company files.

Users must first press F2, which will open the ‘Product Information’ window. Locate ‘Local Server Information’; turn off Hosting.

2: Rename the .ND and .TLG files and restart or rescan the Database Server Manager—After renaming the .ND and .TLG files, go to ‘Start’-> ‘All Programs’-> ‘QuickBooks’-> ‘QuickBooks Database Server Manager’.

Select the ‘Scan folders’ tab and then select ‘Add Folder’, if there are no folders. Else, highlight the folder containing the files and choose ‘Scan’. Now, check that the concerned company file is seen in the box with heading ‘QuickBooks company files found’.

Now, open QuickBooks and try to reopen the company file. If the problem persists, go to the next solution.

3: Open sample file locally installed on a workstation— If the file can be opened, go to the next solution. If it doesn’t open, repair the QuickBooks installation.

4: Open company file locally—Check the steps mentioned in Solution 3: ‘Copy the File to the desktop’ for the first section, ‘The File is Being Opened Locally’.

If the error isn’t fixed, go to the next solution.

5: Close all QuickBooks processes– First, users must log in as admin on the server and press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the task manager. Select the ‘Users’ tab to see processes for all users. Now each QuickBooks process must be highlighted (QBW32.EXE, qbupdate.exe, and QBDBMgr.exe) and then ‘End Task’ selected. Now, the company file must be opened in multi-user mode. If the error recurs, go to the next solution.

6: Manually check folder permissions— The error also occurs if the folder containing the file doesn’t have the right permission. Users must check the folder permissions for sharing the company files and try to reopen the file. If the error persists, go to the next solution.

7: Configure firewall and anti-virus software to allow QuickBooks processes—For this process, users must contact the anti-virus supplier/developer.
