In Epson printer if prints are coming out faint, incomplete, or streaked with lines, then chances are that you have a clogged nozzle which is a common problem many users have with Epson printers. The idea of replacing cartridges rapidly with the low ink alert goes off can be a little effective to prevent ink from drying inside the nozzles, but there may still some issues as one or the other might get blocked for many reasons. To clean and fix printhead related issues then first you need to analyze some basic reasons of its blockage.

Reasons of printer head blockage

  1. If ink cartridge is not amended immediately when you see a low ink warning then it’ll result in faded printouts.
  2. If printer is not turned off and it is kept on sleep mode the ink dry up in the nozzles when you don’t make use of it on a regular basis.

  • Paper towels or lint free wipes

Ways to clean Epson printer head manually

Cleaning the print head-

  1. Turn off the printer
  2. Cut a paper towel in half and lengthwise, fold it in a manner that it’s about one-half inch wide.
  3. Open your printer’s top, you will see a rubber roller there, it transfers paper across the feed system (the place, where print head runs over during printing). Now use a paper towel and printhead cleaner to clean the jack.
  4. Next, move the assembly of printhead over the paper towel and leave it for almost fifteen minutes. Also, let the dried ink on the print head to dissolve. When you remove the paper towel, you will see the black ink on it (which is basically the smeared ink).
  5. Now follow and repeat the above listed steps to clean the printhead until you will not get clear prints. You might have to do it several times to achieve your desired result.
  6. After cleaning, put the print head assembly back to its place and turn on the printer.
  7. Again, print several pages to check all the ports are ink free.

Epson cleaning printer head on windows 7, 8 and 10

  1. Open the devices and printers or printers and faxes folder.
  2. Right-click on the icon for your printer and select printing preferences.
  3. Then the printing preferences window will get pop-up.
  4. Now you need to hit the “utility” option.
  5. Click the head cleaning. This will launch the utility.
  6. After that press the start button and wait until the first cleaning cycle get completed.
  7. To check and ensure the effectiveness of the head clean, click print nozzle check pattern
  8. You can use the utility tab for managing and accessing the “print nozzle check”.
  9. Click print
  10. The printer will print a nozzle check. Then you need to analyze the print quality. If you find any gap in the print or the print is still faint then follow the listed below steps.
  11. For broken and blurred text prints you need to use the printhead alignment utility tool.
  12. Once the “printhead alignment utility” fixes the issue then you need to hit the “Finish” button. In case you still encounter the faint or streaked prints then proceed with the next step.
  13.  If gaps are still present, perform another head clean (without printing a nozzle check between the clean). Once the second clean is complete, then proceed with the listed below steps.

You need to turn OFF the printer and wait until it will get ready to print.

  • Now perform a test print again and analyze the printout carefully. If you find the same issue then again perform cleaning steps. Once done, hit the “finish” option.
  • Note: Only six head cleans is recommended.
